Overview

The Les Mills London Live VR Experience was developed to allow users to immerse themselves in one of the largest group exercise events ever staged, complemented with additional content. This VR experience was designed to encapsulate the energy and excitement of the live event, making it accessible to a global audience.

Objective:

The goal was to create a virtual experience that not only replicated the live event but also added unique interactive elements to enhance user engagement. We aimed to bring the vibrancy of the Les Mills Live London event to users worldwide through innovative VR technology.

Experience Design:

A fitness gallery concept was employed to showcase various activities like Bodypump, Bodybalance, and Bodycombat. We used VR portals within the virtual space to teleport users to 360-degree VR videos of the live event. A watch mechanic on the VR hands enabled users to change camera views, offering a dynamic viewing experience.

Interactivity and Guidance:

Stereo green screen filmed videos of two presenters were integrated to guide users through the VR space. We also included interactive smart weights and equipment, allowing users to virtually try out different exercise routines. Additionally, the room featured key photos and captions from the event, providing context and background.

Virtual Lounge Area:

A virtual lounge area was created where users could interact with a Netflix-like TV to engage with online videos, providing a space for relaxation and exploration within the VR environment.

Event Highlights:

The Les Mills Live London event, held at London’s Excel Arena, was a festival of fitness featuring 250 instructors and over 5,000 exercisers. It was the first fitness event to be filmed fully in VR, with the highlights package made available on META’s Quest platform as an immersive Omnifitness experience.

Innovative Access:

Using the Quest platform, exercisers could virtually participate in workouts like Bodypump and Bodycombat, alongside thousands of others, and even take to the stage next to presenters.

Athlete’s Village and Music Integration:

The event also featured an Athlete’s Village with VR workout areas, refueling stations, product activations, and meet-and-greets with stars of the show. The area was soundtracked by electronic artists from Monstercat, adding an additional layer of engagement.

Conclusion:

The Les Mills London Live VR Experience represents a significant leap in how fitness events are experienced. It not only provided a virtual window into the live event but also enhanced the sense of community and motivation that defines live fitness experiences.
